Hana Ga Iru is a proposed exhibition featuring artwork by Japanese installation artist, Azuma Makoto. “Hana ga iru” is a rough translation to life of flowers/flower life in Japanese. This event showcases the beautiful and picturesque flower structures that Azuma Makoto is known for. Makoto is notable for stepping beyond the boundaries with floral arrangements as he places botanical compositions in unusual spaces to investigate the evolution and the living conditions of plants. Throughout my invitational pieces I incorporated the flower of life symbol which is a symmetrical geometric pattern that is comprised of equal overlapping circles resembling a flower with symmetrical petals. The symbols and the flower-like invitation fold interact with the imagery of Makoto’s work that harmoniously work together.
